Stop The Destruction Of Myanmar!

Myanmar is the stage of one of the boldest challenges to democracy in recent world history. The tension between the vast majority of the people and the military is fierce. The differences between their values and vision for the country are monumental. In a nutshell, the military has a history of acting in their own best interests. Many Myanmar citizens are needlessly paying for the courage of their convictions with imprisonment, torture, and death.
Anyone who has the slightest knowledge of the facts can not seriously think what is happening in Myanmar is acceptable. Here are just some of the facts regarding the current condition in Myanmar:
As of 4-16-2021 or Day 75 of the coup: 728 killed by the junta, 4,082 arrested, 832 charged but have so far evaded arrest, 75 sentenced (20 sentenced to death; 14 so far given 3-7 years hard labor), UNKNOWN number missing, 25,000 villagers displaced and hiding within just the Karen State, 5,000 villagers have fled to Thailand.

The UN and especially democracies are shirking their responsibilities to protect the innocents, and support their peaceful efforts to basic human freedoms. The leaders of this world's democracies have lost their moral compass and are sending the Myanmar people adrift in a sea of barbarians to face its considerable dangers alone. Here are just some examples of the junta's brutality:

arresting doctors and nurses who treat protesters; even attacking ambulances and dragging patients out

raiding food distribution stations set up to help struggling families while stealing food supplies for the soldiers

taking family members as hostages when they can not find the protester they want

kidnapping any youth found on the streets, hooding them, and later using as porters for the military

using unregistered vehicles with no plates to intentionally run down demonstrators

looting businesses who refuse to reopen in support of the civil disobedience movement

randomly searching homes without warrants while stealing anything of value

using fighter jets, heavy artillery, grenades against unarmed rural villagers; thousands have fled
seizing rural villagers and using them as human shields on the front line during battles

taking over a school for the blind for use as a base; 50 children still there as shields

The world must not shut itself off from the cries coming from Myanmar. We are robbing our own sense of justice if we ignore Myanmar's fight for democracy. Isn't it a defining feature of democracy for those who benefit from it to support those who are struggling to secure it?
