Urge Mississippi to Move Forward with Tougher Animal Cruelty Laws & Penalties

People need to be reminded that animals are not just objects or personal property but living, breathing creatures with feelings and emotions.  Animal cruelty has gotten way out of hand and unless charges and penalties become stiffer, these defenseless beings will continue to be victimized.  Many states are making attempts to get those tougher laws, including the state of Mississippi. Mississippi government officials have hopes of changing the language in the Mississippi Animal Welfare Act along with implementing more stringent laws against animal cruelty.  Their proposal is to make aggravated animal cruelty a felony on the first offense since it is currently considered a misdemeanor.  They need to remove any and all exceptions of aggravated cruelty law, including stipulations on first and second offense, and so forth.  In some instances, accidents and actions for self-defense do occur and seriously need to be proven when it comes to repercussions for harming an animal. But why should anyone be given a second or third chance to harm an animal.

Stiffer laws need to ensure that all crimes against an animal be classified as a felony with strictly enforced penalties such as longer jail sentences, higher fees, possibly acts of community service hours and also being placed on an animal cruelty registry to be shared nationwide with anyone within the animal field such as sales, care, breeding and treatment. Additionally, such abusers need to be banned for lifetime working with, caring for or owning animals for the rest of their lives.

The effort in this petition is to urge the Mississippi State Legislators to move forward with tougher, stiffer animal cruelty laws with strictly enforced penalties.  You can support this issue by signing and sharing this petition, speaking out in their name for the protection of animals.

Mississippi State Legislators – I commend you on your efforts to implement tougher animal cruelty laws since aggravated animal cruelty, abuse and neglect is a continuing and horrific reality.  Unless such laws are created and strictly enforced, animals will continue to be victimized.  Any and all crimes against animals need to be classified as a felony and you need to remove any and all exceptions of aggravated cruelty law, including stipulations on first and second offense, and so forth. There shouldn’t be any second chances because it should be common knowledge that abusing an animal, just like abusing a human is wrong and unjust. Poor defenseless creatures need and deserve humans to step in and ensure that abusers be held accountable for any and all forms of intentional animal cruelty. In some instances, accidents and actions for self-defense do occur and seriously need to be proven when it comes to repercussions for harming an animal. But why should anyone be given a second or third chance to harm an animal?  Stiffer laws need to ensure that all crimes against an animal be classified as a felony with strictly enforced penalties such as longer jail sentences, higher fees, possibly acts of community service hours and also being placed on an animal cruelty registry to be shared nationwide with anyone within the animal field such as sales, care, breeding and treatment. Additionally, such abusers need to be banned for lifetime working with, caring for or owning animals for the rest of their lives. These poor defenseless beings are living beings with feelings and emotions, never deserving of harm and abuse.
