Parents of children who attend Lanier High School or any school in Gwinnett are highly encouraged and welcome to sign this petition, it is asked that you leave your input and reasoning behind signing the petition if you choose to do so.

In the year of 2018, we've had a total of 18 school shootings. Lanier High School recently had an incident with a student who had a loaded gun, just a day after the Shooting in Florida. Lanier has little to no security, all doors remain open during the morning in all areas of the school, and we only have 1-2 School Resource Officers on property that typically only remain on the first floor. The students are vulnerable and currently remain so, anyone can enter the front of the building during the day and any student can bring something in at no risk. Many other schools in Gwinnett have the same risks, thus the reason we push for safety.

We the students of Gwinnett, to set a safe environment to learn, lead, and succeed in, have devised a proposition to implement certain security features. We as students fully support the arming of faculty, under the circumstances they have their concealed carry permit and/or have undergone firearms certification courses or other vital classes to utilize proper usage of said weapon. We also wish to see the implementation of School Resource Officers granted by Gwinnett County Police Department adequately patrolling all floors of the schools throughout the hours of function. We would also give proper regards to seeing armed veterans who are mentally adapt to protecting us as we go about our day, being funded by Georgia or Gwinnett to give back to those who fought for our freedom. We as Gwinnett would also like to see (completely possible) the implementation of Metal Detectors, each of which being armed by at least 1 Gwinnett County Police Officer to ensure proper safety. There is a floor plan some students have devised to implement these devices at certain doors and the costs that would come about to do so. We would also like to see some doors being locked all day, even during morning hours as they allow an easy and unsupervised access point for anyone with hostile intent to make it in. We as Gwinnett would also like proper training to staff and all students, Spencer has derived a plan in which to do so as-well as certain tactics that can be used for being cautious and barricading doors. We would also like to see the implementation of a 1 touch lockdown system in the office and a panic/call button located in every classroom. We would also like to see increased security by the front doors during the day, anyone can come in and there have been events in which no one was attending the front office allowing parents to enter and walk around.

We realize these are some plans in which will cost money for some to be put into place while others will not, but in the end, money is not an issue as Gwinnett spends millions a year to maintain all its schools and it would be of no bitter challenge to negotiate for some more. The lives of children, staff, and the worlds future is at risk, we're calling upon Principle Dr. Martin, the Gwinnett Board of Education, and Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks.
