The construction and operation of an indoor aquatic facility in Keremeos

It is time that the village of Keremeos invest in the recreation of our diverse and expanding community. Having access to an all season’s aquatic facility would not only provide individuals with many health benefits, it would support opportunities for groups who are less able, due to age or disabilities, to do other types of activities to stay in shape and socialize. The 2005 aquatic center proposal is similar in size to what we have now however includes a hot tub and a leisure area idea for small children and individuals with disabilities, something that we do not accommodate for currently. We the undersigned are aware that acquiring such a facility will mean there will be a significant increase in taxes and are willing to invest in the health and recreation of our community for this and future generations.

We the undersigned citizens of Keremeos are in favour of the construction and operation of an indoor aquatic facility as proposed in 2005/06.  We the undersigned are aware that acquiring such a facility will mean there will be a significant increase in taxes.  A Study in 2006 states that 50% of those surveyed support in increase in taxes of  $50 while 10% were willing to support and increase of  $150 for recreation.  As the population has increased an average of 3% every 5 years since 2005 we can conclude that the approval rating has also increased.

We feel it is time that the village of Keremeos invest in the recreation of our diverse and expanding community. We also have a group of 60 youth in the local swim club who travel to Penticton nine months of the year.  An indoor aquatics facility would enable them to host swim meets in Keremeos thus injecting money into our community.  It is time to invest in our community, our youth, our health and our tourism through new recreational opportunities. We really hope you will revisit the request for an indoor aquatics facility in Keremeos.
