BELIZE, NO PARADISE FOR ANIMALS

A new government took office in the country of Belize, a long overdue change for countless Belizean citizens. This change which offers a door for true democracy to all of Belize's human citizens we believe, must also take into account the animal inhabitants of this country.

Belize is a country where there is literally no protection or rights for animals. Compassion or kindness for animals is not the norm. It's a country that currently continues to use Strychnine poison to control animal populations.

If a country treats it's animals in such a manner, what message is it sending to  citizens about how animals should be treated? No wonder animal cruelty, neglect and abuse are rampant in Belize.

The current Belize Cruelty to animals Act Chapter 115Dogs Act Chapter 153, are only but a slap on the wrist. These laws are never seriously enforced and there are no mechanisms within the government to address this issue.

A country that allows animal cruelty is a country that is incoherent.  A country that wishes to be coherent and to advance on the road of civilization is a country that is under every obligation to deal with the issue of animal welfare and to ensure that it is dealt with humanely by all of its citizens.

Pet animals have a special relationship with man, and as such, we must consider their importance in contributing to the quality of life and their consequent value to society. An ever progressing country must respect life in all of its forms!

Martin Luther King once said "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." If a country tolerates this treatment toward animals, where do they draw the line for others? Let us not forget Charles Darwin who said, "The love of all creatures is the noblest attribute of man."

With this in mind, we urge this new administration to do everything in its power to do the right thing and to give animals in Belize the rights they deserve by making important changes/amendments in the current laws of Belize relating to Animal Welfare and the treatment of animals in order to stop the massacres perpetrated upon animals in Belize on a daily basis.

Many Belizeans who do care, and foreigners traveling through Belize, have experienced first hand the shocking images of cruelty & suffering of animals. To let this continue only serves to continue damaging the image of the country of Belize.

Please sign our petition to demand that the new prime minister, the Honorable Dean Borrow, protect all wild fauna and domesticated animals of Belize by changing/amending and enforcing the current laws on the treatment of animals and by making sure that aggressors responsible for animal abuse are brought to justice and suffer severe penalties and incarceration.

End Animal Suffering In Belize
Sign this Petition to ask the Prime Minister of Belize, the Honorable Dean Borrow to end the massacres & make Animal Welfare in Belize one of his priorities!

Dear [Government Decision Maker]

I am writing to urge you to make the vital changes/amendment in the  current Belize Cruelty to animals Act Chapter 115 &  Dogs Act Chapter 153 pertaining to treatment of animals in Belize.  Hundreds of animals in your country are affected by humans, and rely on people to treat them with compassion. But sadly, there is no protection for animals.

Animal welfare standards should become a key goal in your administration since it is an issue of importance and is a part of the social development of any nation. The first step toward achieving this end would be to approve laws that will benefit Animal Welfare for all animals in your country.

These laws should recognize animals as sentient beings, capable of suffering and experiencing pain.  We ask that your country act as a catalyst for better animal welfare provisions nationally, by doing so you can help put a stop to the cruelty that many animals suffer every single day.

We the undersigned want to say that we know you, more than anyone  could relate to the word CHANGE in all its significance, as you were just chosen to represent your country which many of your citizens believe was a long overdue change.  With this in mind, we would like you to know that the world is watching and that the we would like to see change come about for all the animal inhabitants of Belize who are at your mercy.

P.A.W., along with the many tourists who have visited your country and have witnesses first hand how animals are treated in Belize, and we the undersigned supporters, would like to say that the country of Belize must advance towards progress and civilization and this entails implementing laws that protect all animals.

We would like you to recognize that respect for animal life is a hindrance neither to progress nor economic and social development and that every man has a moral obligation to respect all living creatures.

Mr. Prime Minister, please do the right thing and support P.A.W. (Protecting Animal Welfare ) Cat Sanctuary & Humane Society of Caye Caulker, and other humane organization in Belize, by giving them the tools to continue their vital work with domestic and other animals, by making important changes in the Belize Cruelty to animals Act Chapter 115 & the Dogs Act Chapter 153.

We sincerely thank you on behalf of all those animals who cannot speak for themselves.
