The Great Hall is an iconic 1950's building, which was purpose built for Sandfields Comprehensive School, which was the first Comprehensive School built nationally. The proposal of a new school being built on the site of Sandfields Comprehensive implies the likelihood of the Great Hall being demolished. This would be a great loss to the community, as it has not only been a landmark but has been used by the community for generations. If the site is going to be used as a school, surely it makes sense to keep this purpose build landmark for future cultural events. The Great Hall could not be replaced "like for like" due to the cost. The Great Hall is a link to our past but putting nostalgia aside, it can be and should be used in the relevant, purposeful way that it was intended for many more years to come. As a past pupil (who is now a successful actor) said recently "the Great Hall is our Albert Hall" .
