Equal pay for women

Nationally, full-time, year-round female workers are paid 79 cents for every dollar full-time, year-round male employees are paid, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2014 Current Population Survey of workers ages 15 and older. In Michigan, the gap is larger: Women are paid 75 cents for every dollar men are paid, according to the American Association of University Women's study,

ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS OF EQUAL PAY ACT OF 1963
An Act

To prohibit discrimination on account of sex in the payment of wages by employers engaged in commerce or in the production of goods for commerce.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That this Act may be cited as the "Equal Pay Act of 1963."

The EPA, which is part of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as amended (FLSA), and which is administered and enforced by the EEOC, prohibits sex-based wage discrimination between men and women in the same establishment who perform jobs that require substantially equal skill, effort and responsibility under similar working conditions.

"Women, we must stand together and demand pay equity. If not, this issue will still be discussed when the 50-year-old Equal Pay Act turns 100."
