Send our children to school safely

I am not anti-America, I am not an anti-gun activist, but I am a mom who sends three children to school every day. I am a full time working mom, paying an increased amount taxes to send my children to a school that is considered “safe.”
I do not consider myself and activist or a political advocate. I am simply a hardworking, tax paying American that wants the best for my children.
In the last several years, we witnessed several mass shootings at the hand of the people whom are all magically labeled as mentally ill. Many are only labeled as mentally ill when we could not find an immediate answer as to why or how it happened.
I have been made painfully aware of grief and that encompasses the victims’ families. These are splashed by the media and made public to even my “safe” community. Guess what social media, you have my full attention.
We cannot blame all of these incidents on just the lack of mental health care, and we cannot blame all of these incidents on just a lack of gun control. The answer lies somewhere in between. For those unfamiliar with the term, it’s called “compromise.”
As finances seem to be the first concern in both areas across the board, let start with simple facts.
-Why does any American need a rapid semi or fully automatic gun? These are not guns used for sport hunting. Using these types of guns to kill, destroy your targets on impact and makes your food source inedible immediately upon impact.
-Should we reserve these guns for the experienced? Yes, we should reserve these types of guns to be accessible only to law enforcement and our military personnel. Accessible only those that have vowed to protect our community and or children.
-Why does America continue to stigmatize the need for mental health care? Perhaps if we can overcome our own false sense of being the perfect American citizen, we can move forward to being a better society as a whole. Seeking mental health care is no different than seeking care for you high blood pressure.
-When will the media begin to take responsibility for focusing on horrific and tragic news? I am not sure when all the social media sites will begin to take some responsibility for glorifying criminals and making them more infamous than the lives that someone has taken away.
-When will American people be allowed to show respect and dignity to a higher power of their choice? Every time there is a tragedy in America, people reach out with prayers and messages of faith. Yet, these are the same prayers and faith messages discouraged in our schools.

I am optimistic that America can turn this around. I have to continue to believe that I will continue to work hard, pay my taxes, and that my children will have a future in America. have to continue to believe that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel, and that my children will get to reap the rewards of my hard work. Most of all, I have to believe that my children can go to school and come home safely.

The day that I lose hope in America and the power to protect my children, will be the day I look to move immigrate my family to a safer country. No wall can stop the power of a mother’s love for her children and the need to make them safe.
So, let’s make America great again, and let’s make it safe for our children to go to school every single day.
