Please sign and share this petition as a way to take a stand against this school for its discrimination to students of color, demanding that a little girl cut her hair because it is “distracting”! This is absolutely absurd!

A sweet young 12-year old girl was told that she had to cut her hair or leave the school.  Hooray for her mother who took the stand to remove her child for such unprecedented policies.  The young girl is black student that was targeted by staff officials because her hair “is poufy!”  If this Faith Christian Academy of Orlando, Florida is bullying this child for her natural appearance, one can only imagine how they handle bullying among students in the school!!

The girl had been attending this school since she was in the third grade and is proud of her hair.  It is wrong to ask her to cut her hair just to satisfy staff and not allow her to be herself! When her mom and family took a stand to protect their daughter, the school only fired back with an ultimatum, “cut the hair or leave.” In fact, other students have been teasing and bullying the girl because of her “poufy” hair, and as you can guess, the school sided with the bullies rather than protect the student.

The school has a particular dress code that states "Hair must be a natural color and must not be a distraction…” but who is to say the hair is distracting when a child of color has a natural looking, puffy hair style? They are punishing this young girl for being different and teaching their other students that it is okay to tease anyone that is not the same as them! Great role models! No wonder there are so many issues with bullying when the staff responsible for the care of our children are guilty of such critical behavior. This young girl is distraught that she had to leave a school of family faces and friends but can’t be comfortable with the principal and administrators bullying her due to her hair.

The Faith Christian School Authorities in Orlando, Florida – Florida Board of Education -  There is definitely something wrong with you people in the treatment of children.  There should be no discrimination or ill dress code for any children like those of color because their hair is different.  They should not be required to cut their hair because it is different than ours.  How could you be protecting our children from bullying and discrimination when you are doing the same thing yourselves?  Change your school code policies that discriminates against children because they are different and educate all your students on accepting others for who they are and not bully, tease or discriminate.
