Urge vigorous prosecution of dogfighters!

  • by: Eric Chevalier

On July 24, 2013 Garret Lee Bump and his girlfriend Casylin Morgan were arrested on various charges associated with dog fighting. Fortunately for prosecutors, both individuals were found with cell phones containing videos of their activities. Details of their arrest and what was found on their cell phones can be found at:

We are asking Ms. Janice Steidley, the Rogers County OK District Attorney, to vigorously prosecute the dog fighting charges that have been filed against this couple. If convicted of the charges, we also ask that Ms. Steidley and her staff seek the maximum possible prison sentences available, unless either defendant cooperates and provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of other dog fighters in the Green Country area.

Those of us who have signed this partition are asking Ms. Janice Steidley, the Rogers County OK District Attorney, to vigorously prosecute the dog fighting charges that have been filed against Garret Lee Bump and Casylin Morgan.

Dogfighting is cruel, inhumane and serves no useful, redeeming purpose. Dogfighting attracts a class of people who are often involved in other criminal activities, as shown by some of the other charges filed against Mr. Bump and Ms. Morgan. There is also evidence suggesting that people who engage in violence against animals have an increased propensity for violence against other humans. For these and other good reasons, dogfighting needs to be stopped; strong penalties against this abhorrent practice will help achieve this goal.

If convicted of the charges, we also ask that Ms. Steidley and her staff seek the maximum possible prison sentences available, unless either defendant cooperates and provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of other dog fighters in the Green Country area. We believe that forceful prosecution and strong penalties can significantly help discourage dogfighting and the terrible abuse of the animals involved.
