Stop the practice of FORCED OBSOLESCENCE from Cannibalizing Our Planet

(Anyone who has purchased an Apple or two will find this video amusing, if not a little disturbing)

Apple sells durable goods of outstanding and durable design. The Power Pc G5 sold since 2003, followed by the Mac Pro and iMac desktops are powerful computing workhorses that are extremely durable.

Unfortunately, Apple's business model relies heavily on their practice of:                                            FORCED OBSOLESCENCE.

The practice of Forced Obsolescence has been extremely lucrative for Apple and is accelerating the cannibalization of our planet's finite resources.

Apple deliberately forces their products in to obsolescence every 7 years by discontinuing support for the operating systems and associated internet browser, making its computers either unable, or unsafe to use to connect to the internet ultimately forcing the end users of their machines to use them as paperweights or throw them in the garbage.

The number one reason that computers are discarded is because they can no longer be used for connecting to the internet.

Apple's goal is to get the consumer to buy the next iteration of their computer regardless of consequences of forced obsolescence to our environment.

Apple's practice of FORCED OBSOLESCENCE is reprehensible. It sets a terrible example as it accelerates the cannibalization of our planet to feed corporate greed. When Apple wins, we all loose.

Forced Obsolescence is already creating the world's biggest mountain of non-biodegradable and dangerous waste. The products Apple is forcing on this mountain of trash are dangerous and difficult if not impossible to recycle.

From 2003 to 2009 an approximate total of 43,301,000 Mac cmputers were sold. Rounding down and calculating conservatively this is equivalent to 649,515,000 pounds of garbage, that will not biodegrade for millennia.

This mountain of unnecessary waste is already large enough to cover the Pyramids at Giza a few times over in addition to the Empire State Building.

In the next few years Apple will force the additional 64,896,000 computers (this is a conservative estimate), it has already sold, onto this growing mountain of unnecessary trash, adding another approximately 973,440,000 pounds of garbage to the pile. That's a combined approximate total of 1.6 billion pounds of non-biodegradable garbage that Apple will generate in its' desperate and short sighted pursuit of profit.

This can be prevented if Apple will simply provide continued security and support for all versions of its internet browser Safari.

The purpose of this petition is two-fold: First to ask Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, NOT to ignore the environmental consequences of the actions of the world's richest company, Second to petition Federal & State Governments to pass legislation that will put an end to the abominable practice of: Forced Obsolescence.

Providing continued browser support to the owners of the durable products Apple has sold, Tim Cook and Apple will potentially keep hundreds of millions of pounds of refuse from polluting our already heavily burdened planet and set an example for other corporations to rethink the way their business models affect our world.

Please help send a message to Apple and Thank you for reading.

Dear Mr. Tim Cook:

We hope this letter finds you well. The purpose of our petition is to request that Apple offer to provide support for functioning Macintosh computers for a subscription.

It is our goal that you provide continued support for working Apple computers so that we can keep them out of landfills.

It is ultimately a lack of support for a computers operating platform that leads many users to dispose of what would otherwise be a perfectly functional machine.

Apple's practice of discontinuing support for operating systems every 7 years, (approximately sometimes less), creates millions of pounds of non-biodegradable garbage annually as computers are unnecessarily forced into obsolescence.

As a business model it sends a message to other companies that forcing their products into obsolescence every 7 years (approximately) is highly lucrative.

This mindset is accelerating the cannibalization of our planet.

Apple has a great opportunity to change our world for the better while rewarding and growing an even larger and more loyal client base. Supporting customer loyalty produces an excellent return on investment. Providing continued subscription based support for Macs can generate an enormous unexploited revenue stream, generate thousands of jobs and potentially keep billions of pounds of garbage from entering our landfills.

It is our hope that you will seriously consider the enormous amount of durable goods that will be forced in to dumps and landfill in the years to come as a result of short sighted policies, and the impact that this will have on our planet.

Attentively,
