Ban the Ringling Bros. at the Blue Cross Arena - Rochester, NY

  • by: Amanda Raymond
  • recipient: Rochester City Council, Blue Cross Arena

The Ringling Bros. are coming to the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY, and it is our goal to boycott their shows this October and prevent them from returning to Monroe County next year. Circuses blatantly imprison and abuse animals. They profit from exploiting highly intelligent and social beings while teaching all the wrong lessons to our children about animal’s rights and care. Please sign this petition to ask Blue Cross Arena to discontinue support for the Ringling Bros/start supporting animal-free circuses, and for the City of Rochester to ban all wild animal performances!

Anyone can sign, so please help bring attention to this matter!
More Facts and other Petitions

THESE ANIMALS:

  • Are taken from their mothers – they break their spirit when they’re vulnerable babies
  • Endure injurious forms of training to perform confusing tricks, unnatural postures, and forced behaviors under the threat of starvation, light deprivation, and through physical punishment
  • Are carted across the country night after night in cramped boxcars/trailers, they are chained or confined to filthy cages in which they eat, drink, sleep, defecate, and urinate—all in the same place
  • Experience extreme emotional trauma and psychological distress because of the intensive confinement and isolation

DID YOU KNOW?

  • The Blue Cross Arena is the only venue in NYS currently hosting Ringling Bros.
  • Because of concerns about animal mistreatment and public safety, a growing number of communities are banning or restricting the use of animals in circuses
  • There are 50 partial/full bans on circus animals in municipalities in the US in 22 states – let’s add Monroe County to the list!
  • Over 20 countries around the world have adopted national legislation prohibiting or restricting the use of wild and exotic animals in circuses

Stop the prolonged suffering and heartbreaking abuse of these animals, please bring attention to this matter by signing our petition.

Thank you!

We did it - we have the support of the City Council!
I wanted to let you all know that I received an email from Council President Loretta Scott stating that she plans to move forward in pushing this legislation. Please continue to sign as this still needs to be passed by the City Council and Mayor before it becomes law. This is very promising, thank you so much for your support! - Amanda
