FBISD Academy Policies

FBISD Academies are a critical part of an educational system that develops each student to his/her full potential and need continued support from the district and parents to thrive.  The decision to join an Academy is an important one for the student and his/her family, and it is made with the expectation that there will be continuity across the high school experience, as part of a broader community of students. The promised academic and supporting staff, educational resources, and physical location are crucial parts of this expectation. We petition the Board and the Administration of Fort Bend ISD to include the following provisions in their policies regarding FBISD Academies:

  1. Once an Academy has accepted a student and the student has signed the Academy contract, that student will remain at the physical school where the Academy is located until graduation. This provision would allow Academies to be phased out or transitioned from one location and into another over a four-year period.
  2. The level of education, curriculum, quality and quantity of faculty and staff should be maintained throughout the students' entire time in the program, even if the program they are enrolled in is phased out or transitioned to a new location. The students have made a commitment to the Academy program and should be able to expect a similar commitment from the district.
  3. The FBISD Board and Administration shall actively engage and consult with Academy students, parents and the affected community in an open, transparent and clear process during any decision-making that directly impacts location, resources, curriculum and material aspects of Academies.

Academies are a vital part of the exceptional education system in Fort Bend County and we recognize the need to make adjustments to Academy locations, structure and curriculum. However, any changes must first ensure that all students who have committed to an Academy program get the same level of commitment from the district as ALL other students, and are provided what they were promised when they enrolled.

Academy recommendation will be presented to the board on 11/10 @ 5pm, with community dialogues on 11/11 and 11/13 @ 7pm at 3119 Sweetwater Blvd. The board will meet on 11/17 @ 5:30pm where we will present the petition results. Your continued support at these meetings is critical. We don't know what the recommendation will be and may have trouble getting heard over the feeder plan noise, so showing up and talking with the admin and board members is crucial.
Update #29 years ago
We will be presenting the results of the petition during the Nov 17th board meeting and request that you show up around 6:15 pm to demonstrate your support. Should you decide to attend, please be respectful and take any opportunity to talk with the board members. Our cause will be helped with numbers, not confrontation. Thank you for your continued support and please continue to get the word out about the petition.

The board meeting address is: 16431 Lexington Blvd. Sugar Land, TX 77479

We are continuing meetings with school board members and spoke at the recent board meeting.

I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to review and sign this petition. However, the number of signatures is reflective of only a small percentage of those parents with children in FBISD Academies. Please take the time to review your contact lists and forward the petition link to as many FBISD people as possible, whether in an Academy or not. They are all voters and their opinion matters.
