Kentucky: Strike Down Anti-Transgender Bill!

Kentucky senator C.B. Embry (R) recently introduced a bill that would ban transgender students from using their preferred bathrooms and locker rooms. According to the bill, other students who catch their transgender peers using the facilities that match their appropriate gender would be entitled to sue the school $2,500 for each instance.

Embry reasons that students could suffer "psychological and emotional damage" from sharing facilities with transgender students. Clearly, he has not considered the psychological and emotional damage that disenfranchised children feel when they're forced to use bathrooms and locker rooms that don't match their gender identity.

Fining schools for accommodating transgendered students' needs is discriminatory, and an unnecessary burden on taxpayers. The vast majority of students will not suffer psychological and emotional damage from sharing facilities with transgender students who identify as the same gender. If they do, it's their problem, not the school's, and not the transgender students'. Please sign the petition to urge Kentucky State Legislators to strike down Embry's anti-transgender bill!
