Support the FRESHER Act!

A loophole in the Safe Drinking Water Act exempts oil and gas companies doing Marcellus shale drilling from meeting environmental standards. The so-called "Halliburton Loophole" exempts companies from disclosing the chemicals used during hydraulic fracturing, a.k.a. "fracking." A new bill would close this loophole and cut down on fracking pollution.

Senator Bill Cardin, who introduced the bill, said, "With 15 million Americans living within one mile a mile of a well that has been drilled in the last 15 years, the loopholes oil and gas companies enjoy threaten our environment and public health. Oil and gas companies that already enjoy tax breaks should be required to follow the same laws to protect our water and public health as other industries.”

Cardin's bill, called the FRESHER Act, would improve quality of life for those who live near fracking operations, and help reduce fracking's damage to the environment. Please sign the petition to urge Congress to pass the FRESHER Act!

We, the undersigned, are concerned that a loophole in the Safe Drinking Water Act exempts oil and gas companies doing Marcellus shale drilling from meeting environmental standards.

We believe that Cardin's bill, called the FRESHER Act, would improve quality of life for those who live near fracking operations, and help reduce fracking's damage to the environment. We respectfully urge you to pass the FRESHER Act. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
