A public servant, or no one for that matter, should be held behind bars indefinitely without evidence of the crime he is alleged to have  committed, drained of resources , and prevented from caring for his family just for being outspoken.

Corporal Gregory Givans is an outspoken officer in the Jamaica Constabulary Force who has been targeted and jailed for 3 years without bail or trial. His co-accused have given bail and allowed to walk free along with other individuals who have clearly committed horrible acts. Whilst there is no evidence indicating his involvement in any crime, he has been denied bail several times. Once when bail was granted, new charges were thrown at him and personal identification documents confiscated at his arrest were hidden to prevent his release. His life is in jeopardy because they are shuffling him around from one remand center to the next. He is now in the most dangerous part of a remand center with hardened criminals serving life sentences. As a known police officer, you can understand that it is a constant battle to survive there. The deplorable food and living conditions have made it challenging to maintain good health. They have also tried convincing him that his sadness about his circumstances instead stem from clinical depression, and have attempted to ply him with a psychiatric medication called Sertraline known to negatively impact someone's physical and mental health and behavior. He has also faced some challenges getting legal representation. Once a lawyer he took interest in because of his great record for helping people in Gregory's situation was arrested on trumped up charges, and had to back off of the case. Other lawyers he retained before and since then didn't appear to be working in his interest, and didn't appear in court once retained. Therefore he had to fire them after paying them large sums of money. Now that he has a lawyer who proves trustworthy, his funds are nearly depleted. It is $2 million Jamaica ($20,000) to retain her and to try and secure the earliest possible trial date. Frequent bail hearings have seriously depleted his finances and that of his chronically disabled mother, and therefore he is seeking financial assistance to retain a legal team. There are no more bail hearings, and a Supreme Court trial date could mean another 2-3 years behind bars. He has 3 young children in need of money for school, travel, food and shelter. The oldest, his adolescent son, is especially in need of his father's presence. A major crisis in Jamaica is that there are many youth in the penal system that are held indefinitely despite the fact that they have not been convicted of a crime.
