Protect Pets from "Hot Car" Deaths

As a Care2 activist, I'm sure one of the things that makes your blood boil is seeing a dog left in a hot car. At least for me, even just hearing about these horror stories gets me going. If I were to see this happen to a dog, I'd want to smash the window and save the poor pup from the dreadful heat.

But did you know that you could go to jail for this?

There are only 10 states where it's legal for a good Samaritan to rescue an animal that might be dying from the heat. And in the remaining 40, more than half lack legal protections for those of us who would intervene when they come upon an animal in distress.

No one should have to risk going to jail to save a life. We need a federal law that guarantees that all citizens have the right to save an animal who is locked in a hot car.

With summer upon us, there is no better time than now. People will be getting out to enjoy the weather, and unfortunately that means more dogs are at risk of being left in a hot car. We must ensure that the law is on our side when it comes to saving pets from potentially cooking to death.

Please sign the petition to tell Congress to pass a national law to protect pets from "hot car" deaths this year.

    Thank you,
    Mary Molnar
