Send Orphaned Grizzly Cubs To A Rehabilitation Center or Sanctuary.....Not a Zoo!

  • by: Richard Spratley
  • recipient: Daniel Wenk, Superintendent, Yellowstone National Park; Jonathan Jarvis, Director, National Park Service

The National Park Service killed Blaze, a very popular Yellowstone sow grizzly and orphaned her two infant cubs. As if that wasn't bad enough, now they want to put them in a zoo. We can't let that happen. Blaze's cubs should be sent to a rehabilitation center and then released back into the wild. If for some reason they can't do that, we want them released to a reputable sanctuary.

These poor creatures are traumatized. They are crying out for their mother. The mother who loved them and protected them as any good mother would do. Now the park service has announced they will condemn the cubs to a life of imprisonment in a zoo. A life of misery, loneliness, mental torture, gawking humans and exploited for profit. If the park service gets their way, these cubs will never know the freedom of the wild again.

We need to let the NPS there are hundreds of thousand of compassionate people out there that want a better life for these cubs.

Please sign and share this petition widely. We don't have much time. Thank you very much for your help and compassion. Together we can make a difference.

We ask you to please reconsider sending Blaze's two orphaned grizzly cubs to a zoo. They have been traumatized enough with the killing of their mother, held in captivity and scared to death. They deserve a decent life. Not condemned to to a life of  imprisonment. These innocent babies belong in a rehabilitation center and released back into the wild where they belong. If for some reason, they can't be rehabed, they should go to a reputable sanctuary. Concerned citizens have at least 3 locations already lined up. All you have to do is agree to give them a chance.

Everyone, thank you for signing & sharing this petition. Your compassion and caring are greatly appreciated. With almost 200,000 signatures, it is sure to have a big impact.
We are working diligently for these cubs to give them a better life than a zoo, as if killing their mother wasn't bad enough. It's going to be very tough. If anything, we'll make a difference for future bears. Most importantly is to establish policy change to allow for a Grizzly Rehab in the lower 48.

Thank you so much for your concern for Blaze's cubs - Unfortunately, the number that was previously posted was inaccurate. To call and urge the Park Service to rehabilitate the cubs instead of sending them to a zoo, call (307) 344-7381, hit zero and ask for the Superintendent's office. They will be able to take a message for you.
