Preserve Childcare Assistance for Single Parents

Parents in the state of Connecticut are at risk for losing childcare assistance because Care for Kids does not have the budget to continue providing assistance. Single parents are especially at risk, because if they loose their assistance and have to quit their job to stay home with their children, there is nobody else in the household to go to work. If single parents loose Care for Kids, many parents will be without a way to provide for their children.

The average cost of childcare in Connecticut is $19,521 per year for one child (about 30k for a nanny and about 11k for a daycare center). Many single parents are only making $20-$30k working a full time job, which is barely enough to live on, and they have no way to pay for childcare in addition to the cost of living. In this economy, most single parents are unable to move in with a family member for assistance, because their family members are also struggling to make ends meet.
