Protest Pennsylvania Education Budget Cuts

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett proposed a budget on March 8, 2011 for the 2011-12 fiscal year. You can read it on pa.gov and see for yourself, but these are some of the parts of it that caught my attention:
  • Funding for state universities would be cut in half.
  • Elimination of funding for Dual Enrollment programs (which allow high school students to receive college credits).
  • Elimination of the school improvement grant program.
  • $2,050,000 cut from community college general funds.
Affording higher education is difficult enough as it is. Please support me in making it easier for young people to become educated and sign this petition. America needs leaders of all types, not just the people who have money. Our country was founded on equality and opportunities for all, not aristocracy. When we work together, we can make a difference.

edit: ** With all these budget cuts, all day preschool and after school programs will have to end. Tutoring programs and winter school (to make up classes so students can graduate on time) will also end. Parents will have to pay for day care of younger children, furthering the strain on Pennsylvanian families. High school students will have more difficulties garduating on time without tutoring and winter school, but in the budget it is predicted that high school graduation rates will increase. How does that make sense? **
