Help free the Clissold Park Deer

This petition is to raise awareness in regards to the herd of deer located at Clissold Park, Hackney, London. This issue was passed onto myself in the hope via a strong campaign and public backing, these animals can be located to larger, secure and sufficiently more appropriate environment.

As well as chronic neglect, they have been left in their pen for a period of ten months whilst building work is completed in the surrounding area. This began in February and since that time, the enclosure has been reduced by over half. The deer were left with merely unscreened, insecure fencing panels between them and the works. The "new" pen will barely be any larger, with new "Regency" fencing one can climb over, with even less
cover and a new footpath cut through the pen.

Given the enclosure is completely insufficient, rather unsurprisingly it%u2019s plagued by vandals. On the 1st October intruders set fire to the brand new aviary next to the deer pen and proceeded to release 3 deer. It%u2019s also been reported deer have been harmed by dogs off the leash.

Another top deer vet, Peter Green, was also called in to inspect the herd after a deer was shot!

Evidently this is a completely inappropriate and dangerous environment for these poor creatures. The neglect is also long-term. They no longer have the tick-off feeding etc rota that used to be on the noticeboard. A top deer vet who treated the herd 3 years ago has publicly stated how unsuitable the pen is.

On September 3rd a fawn was born into this hell hole. Then the young males were rehomed. There are currently 8 deer in the compound.

I will contact various welfare groups, local press and visit the park to keep track of exactly what%u2019s happening. If anyone can help in any way, please don%u2019t hesitate to contact me on venus2884@hotmail.com
