Save the Arabian Caracal (lynx) at Joon pet shop, Riyadh, KSA

Please support the release of the endangered Arabian Caracal (lynx) from the pet shop "Joon" in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to the Riyadh zoo for preservation and possible breeding ( the zoo have happily agreed to take him).  The lynx, which is a medium sized-male desert cat is living in filthy conditions, doesnt have constant food or water, and has been only fed rice for over 4 years.  If doesnt have fresh air or room to walk and excersize.  Importantly, it is against the law: as an endangered animal of Arabian origin, given that Saudi Arabia has signed the CITES agreement, which prohibits the trade of endangered animals.  The lynx should be preserved, thus we need to raise awareness so the Saudi Wildlife Commission intervenes.  Please sign this petition and share it with everyone you know so we can preserve this beautiful animal as a symbol of Arabian pride and respect for its indigenous animals.
Highness Prince Bandar bin Saud Al Saud
Secretary General of the Saudi Commission for Wildlife

Your Highness Prince Bandar bin Saud Al Saud,
Saudi Arabia has made advances in all directions, one of them is signing the international CITES agreement to protect endangered animals and prohibit their trade. The international image of Saudi Arabia as a humanitarian country has escalated, and Islamic values of animal welfare are being promoted.

Due to the great efforts and progress you have made, we would like to bring to your attention the case of an endangered animal, an Arabian caracal (lynx), which is for sale at a high profile pet store; JOON, on Khurais Highway, close to Takhassosi road, Riyadh. In addition, the pet shop occasionally charges an entrance fee, and behaves like a zoo, which it is not, so the customers can look at this and other large dogs and exotic animals it has. This caracal is a medium sized adult male exotic feline/cat species who is not well looked after nor is it fed the proper diet of raw meat, or its cage large enough or being properly cleaned. In fact, this is not an animal that is meant to be a house pet, and it can never become a personal pet - it is an exotic endangered animal that should be in a zoo and preserved. Only this way can it be saved and bred so the future generations can see the beauty of this Saudi Arabian caracal.

Furthermore, since the caracal has been at JOON pet shop uncared for in a small dirty cage, for over 4 years, it may be dangerous to people, including the families and children who visit the store. In addition, the animal looks very thin and may be in need of medical attention. It is clear that the pet shop is not benefiting from having the caracal there and that they do not know how to care for it. The workers are not trained animal professionals, particularly in the area of exotic animals, and they are afraid of it thus they do not clean the cage or give it proper medical expertise. As the Wildlife Commission has a responsibility to set good examples, and educate people on correct animal welfare, as well as uphold laws, we are kindly asking for your intervention to release this animal into the proper hands.

The Riyadh Zoo would provide an excellent solution for this animal - that it be moved into the zoo for treatment and rehabilitation - upon the intervention of the Wildlife Commission to ask JOON to release it.. In fact they may be able to use it for breeding to bring more of this beautiful animal to Saudi Arabia. As an endangered species of Arabia, this caracal deserves to be preserved as a symbol of Saudi pride for future generations to behold. The greatness of this beautiful desert land including its animals can be seen through the preservation of its wildlife. Now that Saudi Arabia is a part of CITES, and already has the high standards of the Quran and Hadith that enforce animal welfare, let us show the world that Saudi Arabia does support animal welfare and preservation by looking after its indigenous animals.

Thank you for your time and assistance.
Sincerely,
