Lets make the world GM free - starting with Europe

Do you want Europe to be flooded with GM crops? Do you trust scientists to take the lead on GMO's?
The latest recommendations from the EU - our democratic representatives,indicates they've caved in to the World Trade Organisations's edicts on allowing GM crops 'co-existence' with other conventional or organic crops - and they further recommend to member countries that "elements such as socio-economic or ethical considerations cannot substitute for science-based decisions on safety"
Let's be clear. This means they can ignore the 'socio-ecomomic' views of ordinary citizens who are negatively affected by GM crops, prefering to base their judgements on that given by scientists. Would these be the same scientists that say GM is safe? There are many independent scientific studies which are never refered to which indicate GM crops are certainly not safe.
The idea that GM crops can co-exist with conventional or organic crops is a nonsense. Ask farmers in the US who are being sued by biotech companies for having GM crops on their land without permission! Farmers who never wanted GM but who's crops have been contaminated with GM despite assurances from biotech companies that this couldn't happen if they followed the recommended 'safety' margins.
Bees Action Network represents bees, which are in drastic decline. Particularly in America which has grown GM for years. Bees, other wildife - AND HUMANS - are suffering from the health effects of GM crops. The spin from the biotech industry is deafening. But you - the consumer - has the last word. Make that NO!
We, the undersigned, call on you to immediately impose a ban on the growing of GM crops in Europe and until and unless new independent scientific studies prove they are safe. The catastrophic demise of bees, the drastic decline in other wildlife species, and the dramatic rise in chronic human ill health seen in the US and other developed countries where GM crops are grown indicate that further independent studies are necessary. Continued use of GM crops could put our whole food chain in danger. If you act urgently with precaution now, we could save bees, wildlife and human life from environmental catastrophe.
