Petition to deny Stephen Kuber Parole

A parole hearing is scheduled for the last week in March, 2013, for Stephen Kuber, a man characterized by Supreme Court Justice Joseph Harris as amoral and animalistic, and who murdered Kimberly Jaye Decker on July 10, 1990. On that date, Kuber went to the Altamont home of Ms. Decker where he brutally strangled, raped and then murdered her, after trying multiple methods to do so, including slitting her throat, smashing in her skull and trying to choke her to death with baking soda. His cold blooded methods coupled with his lack of remorse prove he is not fit to ever be released from prison.

Parole Board:

Ms. Decker was 30 years old at the time of her death, which occurred the day before her father's birthday. She left behind her parents, a brother and sister, a nephew, many cousins and numerous friends. She also left behind a promising life unlived. Judge Harris was quoted as saying if state law allowed it Kuber "deserves a death sentence."
Judge Harris convicted Kuber of Murder in the Second Degree and described his acts as "the most heinous, mean and animalistic thing this court has ever known."
Kuber was sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison with a maximum life sentence. Early on, Kuber attempted to escape from prison, but thankfully was caught. He is currently in the Auburn Correctional Facility.
The parole of Stephen Kuber would be a travesty and great injustice to Kimberly, her family and society as a whole. Assistant District Attorney
Paul DerOhannesian said at the time, Kuber "has not expressed one ounce of remorse" and recomended the Board of Parole not release him after his minimum 23 year sentence. Judge Harris said, "This court believes this defendant has killed and will kill again if ever released from prison." He recommended Kuber spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Kimberly's death affects the people who loved her, every day in so many ways. Every moment of joy is tainted by the fact she is no longer here. The nature of the crimes committed against Ms. Decker should rule out any consideration of parole.
The undersigned do hereby petition the Parole Board to deny Stephen Kuber parole. In addition we ask that any further parole hearings result in denial. His depraved actions prove Stepheb  Kuber deserves to serve the maximum proposed sentence of life and never see the light of day as a free man.
