Open a College & Career Preparation Charter School for Middle and High School Students Residing In Baltimore City.

We need support to demonstrate the need to start a strong College and Career Preparation Middle and High School Program beginning in Middle School NOW. I would be the Charter School Operator. My name is Virginia Grant. I am the Founder/CEO of Stand for Youth -- a non-profit, charitable youth advocacy organization providing 21st century college and workforce development programs in high-demand/low supply STEM industries, evidenced-based life skills training, and student advocacy services.  For the last three years we have provided Out of School Time (OST) programs during the Summer.  Students have earned short-cycle, industry recognized certifications such as Department of Labor OSHA 10 Construction certifications (good anywhere in the country -- no expiration date), ServSafe Manager certifications (good anywhere in the country for five years), and First Aid/CPR certifications (good anywhere in the country for 2 years). Additionally, students participating in our Gardening Program have received Certificates of Completion from the University of Maryland's Extension Program, Master Gardeners Program.  To find out more about us, please visit www.standforyouth.org.  Workforce Development programs that begin in middle school are more effective and Baltimore City students need these types of programs NOW.  Please help me create this option for Baltimore City middle and high school students.

We need to start our 21st Century College and Career Preparation programs in middle school.  Research has shown that workforce development prograns that start in middle school are more effective.  This will give our youth, who currently engage in CTE programs beginning in high shcool, the addiitional time needed to complete them based solely on attitude, performance, desire and their capability to do so. It will also provide our Special Education students with the additional time they may require to complete College Prepartion and Workforce Development programs. We currently offer Academic Enrichment Programs, Evidenced-Based Life Skills Training (to assist our students in acquiring some of the soft skills needed to be effective at school, work, home and in their communities).  We also offer workforce development programs in five STEM industries:  Building & Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Engineering, Healthcare, and Technology. We offer an Entrepreneurship and Maker Education programs, to assist in transforming students from consumers to producers.  Additionally, we also offer student advocacy programs and a Community Empowerment Program via our One-Dream/One-Voice initiatives. We need your support NOW to offer these programs to Baltimore City students beginning in middle school.  Studies have shown that workforce development programs that start in middle school, are more effective.  Being awarded a Charter would provide us with the physical and financial infrastructure we need to support even more students. Please support us NOW in this effort.  Help us bring our 21st Century College and Career Preparation School to Baltimore City.  Your support is sorely needed.  You have to be a Baltimore City resident in order for your signature on this petition to be effective.  Please do not endorse if you are not a Baltimore City resident.
