HELP SAVE THE LAST INTACT COASTAL TEMPERATE RAINFOREST ON THE PLANET

In B.C.’s Great Bear Region will you find the elusive sprit bear. Rarer than the giant panda, they live only in one of the last intact coastal temperate rainforests on the planet. The region is also home to many other unique creatures like wolves, birds and fish. Close by, endangered whales, dolphins and porpoises flourish in the Great Bear Sea.

But the future of these irreplaceable species and the rainforest hang in the balance.
Large-scale oil developments comparable to the dangerous Keystone pipeline are threatening to destroy the pristine wilderness of the Great Bear Region. These developments will bring oil tankers through some of the most treacherous waterways on earth. The potential for an oil spill is too great to ignore.

The Great Bear Region is no place for an oil development. Not now. Not ever. Not at any price. The spirit bears, whales, and other species and the rainforest thrive in the Great Bear Region and desperately need your help to protect their home.

Please join the WWF to help preserve this region. With your support we can continue to work with governments and First Nations groups to protect this ecological treasure. Together, we can ensure that the Great Bear Region and the species that call it home can continue to thrive.

Update #58 years ago

President Obama rejected TransCanada’s request to build the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, blocking the dangerous project once & for all. This is an incredible win for the environment.

ALL CANADIANS & PEOPLE WORLDWIDE PLEASE HELP REJECT THIS DIRTY, DANGEROUS & EXPLOSIVE PIPELINE FROM HAPPENING ACROSS CANADA. IN BC IT WILL EFFECT THE GREAT SPIRIT BEAR'S HOME LEADING TO EXTINCTION OF THIS RARE ANIMAL. NO OIL IS WORTH THE DESTRUCTION OF CANADA'S WILDLIFE, CITIZENS OR FRAGILE ECO SYSTEM.
Update #48 years ago
BC's Great Bear Rainforest is Home to Spirit Bears. It is the largest intact temperate rainforest in the world & it is home to hundreds of species of animals that make up one on the most bio-diverse areas on the planet. The Spirit bear was thought to be a genetic variation of the black bear. This colour is due to a double recessive gene unique in the subspecies. They are not albinos and not related to polar bears or the "blonde" brown bears of Alaska than other members of their species.

The place of Great Spirit Bear is at risk thus putting the Great Spirit Bear at risk. This is the largest remaining rainforest on the planet right now, but it will not be for long if we do not stop these oil companies. Isn't it time we take the steps to start saving this forest and help the planet at the same time. Please share this petition with everyone you can and encourage their signature.

Thank you

Thank you everyone for your signatures. Bears are beautiful animals and the Great Spirit Bear is no exception. They are so reclusive it is difficult to get even a glance at one. There numbers are few so we cannot lose any of them. The oil companies want to change that all for money. Bears are essentient beings and meet the criteria man has set. They are matter, sensation, perception, mental formations and consciousness. They are self aware, which means they deserve our respect.

In order for us to be successful we require over 10,000 signatures. The great Spirit Bear is so rare and could easily become extinct. I urge everyone to sign this petition and to get friends and family to do so too. Thank you nancy
