Every day 250,000 sharks are killed solely for their fins. These sharks are still alive when their fins are cut off and are dumped back in the ocean where they suffer a slow death. With 90% of the shark population already gone we need to raise awareness about shark finning.
We are petitioning the Discovery Channel to add a program to their Shark Week lineup about the practice of shark finning and the damage it is doing to the shark population. We all have enjoyed Shark Week for the past 25 years and with this additional knowledge broadcasted we will be able to enjoy Shark Week for years to come.
Dear Mr. Zaslav, we are petitioning for you to include a shark finning segment to your popular Shark Week program. Shark finning is a shocking practice that is wiping out the shark population. We hope that by adding this program it will help raise awareness to people that may otherwise not be exposed to this information. We love sharks and love learning about them during Shark Week, we hope that you will consider adding a program about finning so that others may learn about this as well.
