Tell the Scottish Government to Ban the use of Dredgers to Protect the Marine Environment

Green groups in Scotland are calling on the government to protect marine life after a scallop dredger caused extensive damage to a reef off the country's west coast, according to a report on bbc.com

Conservationists said the destruction from two incidents of intensive dredging at Loch Carron was like "dropping a bunker-busting bomb on a nursery school."

The report states: "Video shows hundreds of dead and dying flame shells (small clams) on the seabed, with dead spider crabs, damaged starfish and smashed sea urchins."

Conservationists are concerned the extensive damage would take years to regenerate. Moreover, they argue that dredging should not be allowed in inshore waters to stop it from happening again.
