Tell the NYPD to Fire the Officer Who Killed Eric Garner!

In July 2014, a video surfaced online of NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo putting unarmed Eric Garner into a choke hold that killed him. The NYPD outlawed choke holds two decades ago, but a Staten Island grand jury has failed to indict the officer on any charges, and the officer has been placed on leave from the NYPD. The man who filmed the incident, however, has been arrested on weapons charges.

It is a great injustice that the officer will face no charges and has simply been placed on leave. The video shows he is entirely unfit to hold this position of power, and the NYPD needs to take a real stand against this act of brutality.

This case bears a stark resemblance to what happened to Mike Brown in Ferguson, MO. Both incidents involve the deaths of unarmed black men and a lack of accountability on the part of the police. We simply cannot sit by and watch as communities of color are disproportionately negatively affected by our justice system.
