Corio Skate Park

Corio has no Skate Park but has plenty of options to build one. Us Kids have to go to Norlane, Lara or Bell Park to enjoy a Park to ride our skate boards, scooters and bikes and we need this petition to get the Council to build one. A great option is on the corner of Bacchus Marsh Road and Purnell Road across the road from the Corio Police Station. Please help us local kids petition to get the council to build one.

Leigh Poyner, 16, says kids are fed up with having to travel to go to a skate park. PICS: Mitch Bear

Leigh Poyner, 16, said Corio youngsters are tired of travelling to Norlane, Lara or Bell Park to ride their skateboards and scooters when there are plenty of places locally that could be transformed into a skate park.

“We used to go to the Lara one but that got pulled apart and the ones at Norlane and Bell Park aren’t all that safe, I don’t think,” Leigh said.

“It’s frustrating getting to them because it takes a while and you have less time skating.”

“Having one closer to home would be better.”

“It’s something a lot young people here want,” he said.

One of the sites that Leigh believes would make a good skate park is in Shell Reserve, on the corner of Bacchus Marsh Road and Purnell Road.

“There’s a little playground there just across the road from the police station but not much else,” he said.

“There’s plenty of room for it to built there and it’s close to a lot of things as well.”

With the help of his mum, Leigh set up the online petition earlier this week and hopes to get 1000 signatures before he presents it to the council.

“When I get it I’ll take it to the City of Greater Geelong and hopefully something comes from it.”
