So much has happened since March 2008, when beautiful Ella's body was found decomposing in that locked crate after being intentionally abandoned by Christine Abrams... Defense attorney, Andrew Stine, has filed repeated motions of varying degrees of competence/mockery of the court so now we are awaiting a decision by the Appellate Court as to whether Judge McKibben will remain on the case, in addition to the outcome of Stine's motion to suppress the very evident evidence of Abrams' freely admitted crime. Abrams' next hearing is scheduled for September 11. Therefore, we would like to present the following "blanket" letter for your signature (but do feel free to also send one personally). Please read it in its entirety..... This letter will be delivered weekly to the State Attorney's Office until the actual time of the next hearing (as the scheduled date may very well be delayed yet again). As always, thank you for your caring concern in this effort to conquer animal cruelty/abuse and for being the true "Voices for Ella" (www.voicesforella.org).

In the matter of State of Florida v. Christine Dawn Abrams:
We the undersigned,
Consider animal cruelty to be a serious offense that should not to be taken lightly; Desire to be a voice for Ella; Keep in mind she has no voice; Aware of the importance of tourism to the Florida economy; Affirm that there are many part-time Florida residents; Believe that the opinions of part-time Florida residents should be considered in this matter; Desire for all members of the community to be heard; Fully believe that there is more than sufficient evidence in this case to substantiate the charges of misdemeanor animal cruelty and unlawful confinement of an animal; Note with regret that the defendant is not charged with a felony; Affirm that a trial by jury of one's peers is the ultimate expression of the community's will in matters of criminal justice;
Therefore we,
Remind the State Attorney's Office that they represent the People of the State of Florida; Draw attention to the amount of public outcry in the community; Emphasize the heinous nature of this crime; Express our hope that the State Attorney's Office will take this case to trial; Strongly condemn any plea deal that would be for less then the maximum penalty allowable by law; Trust that the voices of the community will be heard.

Dogs are people too. How can she not go to jail after what she did? She should be put in a crate and left there with no food or water and see how it feels.

I just don't know how any decent human being could do this to another living creature. She obviously is a sick individual who should not be trusted to not do this to another animal or even do something to another person.

I have 5 adopted dogs who are all great. One is a mix of white German Shepherd/white Husky. Lakota is very beautiful and is a pleasure to watch play. Ms. Abrams does not know what she was missing by her abuse of Ella. I hope
she does significant, very unpleasant jail time forever!!!!

I cannot believe any person could do something so horrible to an animal. If she didn't want Ella, she had dozens of options. She could've brought her to a shelter, she could've just let her loose, she could've called the police, she could've told a neighbor, she could've had Ella euthanized, she could've, she could've, she could've... but she didn't! The option she chose was to leave Ella in a locked crate with NO FOOD and NO WATER! Abrams KNEW that she sentenced poor Ella to a slow and painful death. I have 5 dogs and one day I went off to work and realized I had forgotten to fill their water bowls. I was tortured all day at work thinking my dogs were thirsty and my negligence had caused that. Abrams let poor Ella go for 2 months... WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS WOMAN?!?!?! She should be starved for 3 days... 3 days so she knows what she put Ella through. Now 3 days won't kill Abrams, but it will sure show her a fraction of the suffering she caused this poor innocent animal. Please do not slap this woman on the wrist. What she did was terrible, unforgiveable and totally heartless. She needs to be banned from ever owning another pet and she needs to go to jail for what she's done... if not, she will only do it again.

How is it possible to have sympathy enough for Abrams to lessen her charges? She had no sympathy for that innocent little dog, named Ella! Miss Abrams is as inhumane (and inhuman, in my opinion) as they come. She deserves to be punnished to the fullest extent of the law.

This crime was intentional and premeditated and therefore should be prosecuted to the fullest.
A very ugly crime which caused unthinkable suffering.

I attended last weeks hearing and was told how Ella bent her cage up trying to get to the bag of food next to her. It was so upsetting that I can't get it out of my mind. I can't imagine anyone treating one of God's creations in such an ghastly manner as she was treated. Please I urge you to sentence her as she should be sentenced. Please don't let her off with a slap on the hand. She needs to pay for what she's done and anyone else that abuses animals should be sentenced also. Next time it may be a child. How Ms Abrams and Mr Stine sleep at night is beyond me. She needs to pay for this as she bragged about it on her myspace account, which is what I was told. Animal abuse should not be a misdemeanor but a felony and maybe they would think twice before doing this again. I trust in your judgement and know you won't let Mr Stine run over you. All he is doing is skirting the issues. He tries to distract you when he does all his moving at the podium. May Ella rest in peace as now she's running in God's land with all 4 legs and plenty to eat. Thank You

Why is the punishment so minor for those who torture, neglect, and murder animals? There needs to be a tougher punishment because a year in jail and a fine probably don't even faze most of these people. The animals need justice and protection.

A slap on the hand is not what poor Ella went through. Please see that this woman get more than that. Ella suffered a hard long sad death, and I do beleive that food was within a few inches of her... Now how sad is that knowing the food is there and can't reach it. This woman needs to be punished to the MAX.

I strongly support this petition. Clearly this person needs to be punished and to the fullest extent of the law. It is mind boggling that a person would own an animal, and allow this to happen. There is simply no excuse here, and she needs to pay the price. Animals have no voice and they are completely dependent on their owners for their care. What a tragedy this is! It is yet another case of humans failing to meet their obligation as a pet owner. My God, this dog had the same life breath flowing though it that we do. Life is a gift and it ought to be viewed and treated as such. When will people realize this and that we are all connected? I am so saddened by this.
Please do the right thing and prosecute this woman for her most horrific crime.
On behalf of the animals.
Melissa MacDonald

As we kill off each species one by one then there will be only humans left and maybe even no flora. What will we do when we can only describe to our kids what an animal used to look like or even a flower knowing that they will never know the wonder and excitement of the reality. They will never know the love and loyalty of a pet because there will be none. Maybe they won't even understand love and loyalty. Who knows. Most of all they will never know respect for life! I suppose at the basic level we really want to raise monsters and destroy our world! Is that it?

This woman deserves to be punished for her lack of compassion and lack of responsibility. It will be her lesson to learn. It will do her some good to face the consequences for her actions and neglect.
