Jeremy Winfrey, a senior and 4-year varsity student-athlete is being wrongfully accused of violating the CIF players code of conduct by current Taft head coach Edward Evans. Coach Evans has been employed at Taft since August 7th, 2018-September 4th, 2018 (exactly 30 days). Jeremy was accused of this allegation after asking a JV coach what college he went to. This question is not only innocuous but extremely relevant when asked to any educator or youth mentor. As a result and without any preliminary disciplinary steps Jeremy was kicked off the team.
Jeremy has always been a gifted, dedicated athlete and team player. These distinctions have earned him the respect of his teammates, opposing teams and the coaches. All of his previous Taft coaches, as well as coaches outside of LAUSD have made attempts to REINSTATE Jeremy. He has never been suspended from school or any athletic program. Jeremy played for 4 different Taft Football Head Coaches in his 4-year football career (not including Evans) and has always treated his coaches, mentors and peers with the utmost respect and dignity. He is currently in good standing with all of them and they are more than willing to vouch for his character.
On 9/17/18, an official appeal on Jeremy's behalf was submitted to Taft Principal Daniel Steiner. Join us in demanding that the LAUSD Administration require that the coaches of the Taft football program honor the LAUSD code of conduct, specifically; fairness, a positive environment, self-control and a fair system of discipline. Please sign this petition and join Jeremy's friends, family, his previous coaches and teammates in demanding that JEREMY WINFREY BE REINSTATED AND ALLOWED TO PLAY VARSITY FOOTBALL in his senior year at Taft Charter High School. Thank you for your support.
