Free Shelley Thomson from Guardianship Hell

  • by: Steve Glanz
  • recipient: Texas 13th Court of Appeals

In January 2019, Shelley Thomson was ambushed and removed from her home under pretext of Texas State guardianship. Her home, car, pet, and possessions were stolen by the state. Shelley is a brilliant and articulate scientist. Labeled "incapacitated" though clearly not (proven by psychiatrist reports), she was placed in a nursing home, where she is isolated in a room, forbidden exercise, fed poorly, and receives minimal care. She is abused daily. Guardianship fraud is rampant in Texas, and throughout the US. Its purpose is to dispossess helpless elderly citizens for the benefit of the state.

Shelley hired an attorney who has fought for her release from guardianship for 1.5 years at no cost, while her health deteriorates under draconian conditions. Texas refuses to recognize Shelley's attorney because they claim she is incapacitated, and therefore has no right to sign contracts.

The case has nearly 250 filings now through the lower court system, and now onto the appeals court, docketed for December 28, 2020. Shelley's friends have explored every avenue. The purpose of this petition is to implore the appeals court judges to act with common sense, compassion, and decency.

This petition, with signatures, will be sent to the Texas 13th Court of Appeals and media. Please sign the petition. Additionally, you may contact the following with your concerns, stating that:*

- Shelley has a right, under Texas law, to hire her own attorney.
- Shelley's request to be removed from guardianship or to be transferred to a guardian of her choice must be honored.
- The request for Shelley to relocate to an independent living residence of her choice must be honored.
- The request to protect Shelley from the threat of Covid-19 at the nursing home, by allowing her to relocate to a better place, must be honored.

*UPDATE:

I just learned from this page that direct communications with the court and judges, without first serving the opposing party and filing with the court, can potentially cause a case to be delayed or dismissed. Therefore, I now suggest that you only contact media with your concerns, at your discretion. Additionally, your signature on this petition is very helpful!

Thank you so much for signing this petition! I will keep it open, but as of today, I submitted it to the court (filing accepted), and to the media contacts listed in the petition. The wheels of justice move slowly, but I will try to keep you updated if there are any significant developments.
