Move Forward in Nevada With Stiffer Charges for All Animal Cruelty Offenses

  • by: Sue Lee

Animal cruelty is never to stop unless there are tougher laws, charges and penalties for offenders who abuse them. Nevada has made some attempts by implementing a “Cooney’s Bill” which was named after a poor animal that was severely cut by a box cutter, with the owner watching on as the dog ran around in circles, bleeding profusely until it died of shock and blood loss. Aside from the new bill, other issues of animal cruelty, abuse and neglect needs to be addressed with implication of felony charges and strict penalties. Whatever the extent, any offense against a living, breathing defenseless animals warrants no less than a felony offense. Additionally, penalties need to make an impact with longer jail sentences, higher fees, possible acts of community service hours and also being placed on an animal cruelty registry to be shared nationwide with anyone within the animal sales, care, breeding and treatment. Such abusers should also be banned for lifetime working with, caring for or owning animals for the rest of their life. There shouldn’t be any second chances because it should be common knowledge that abusing an animal, just like abusing a human is wrong and unjust. There is never a reason to intentionally harm an animal.

The effort in this petition is to encourage Nevada State Legislators to stiffen all of their animal cruelty laws, charges and penalties so that animals can be protected and safe. The only way to do that is to make people think twice about harming animals due to the effectiveness of current laws and repercussions. You can help me with this issue by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments.
