We the undersigned call upon Bristol City Council to reject the application to install floodlights on tennis courts in Canford Park, Westbury on Trym, Bristol, UK (32 extremely powerful LED floodlights on 10 metre high masts).
Canford Park is a tranquil community park, introducing floodlights would:
- change the park into a tennis sports centre for the benefit of a small number of people;
- cause enormous light pollution, harming people and wildlife;
- introduce 32 huge and ugly floodlights changing the experience of a tranquil family park into the experience of an industrial park;
- not be supported by need because within walking distance there are several woefully underused floodlit tennis courts;
- the floodlights and intensification of tennis activity would drive children and parents from the playground only 8 metres away from the tennis courts.
