Help end the Private Ownership of Big Cats

The Federal Bill which would end the private ownership of Big Cats, such as lions and tigers, is gaining momentum, but needs help getting Congressional Cosponsors. In the USA, the ownership and breeding of Big Cats is allowed and unregulated. The kittens are cute and make great photo props. People will pay to swim with a tiger cub, or pet a lion cub. This exploitation hurts the kittens, as well as the caged breeding adults which are kept in small filthy cages and are in poor health due to lack of veterinary care and poor nutrition. When the kittens grow too big to be safely used around the public, they are sold to unscrupulous buyers on the internet who use them for canned hunts for "trophy" hunters, used for roadside zoos, or sold as pets to unskilled owners, posing a threat to the public safety. Remember the Zanesville, Ohio incident in 2011 where the owner, Terry Thompson, opened his animal cages then killed himself? 48 Big Cats and Bears were shot by authorities before they could harm citizens of that town. This should never happen again!
Please write to your US Congressperson and ask him or her to please cosponsor H.R. 1818 The Big Cat Public Safety Act. The email address is the congressperson's
last name.house.gov or you can call them at their local office or in Washington DC.
