Don't Deal With Company Supplying Attack Helicopters to Syria: Seek Peaceful Solutions

Secretary of State Clinton has accused a Russian company of supporting atrocities in Syria by selling the government attack helicopters.

She says officials are "extremely concerned" about them getting even more attack helicopters, but she didn‘t mention the $1 billion dollar contract the Department of the Defense has with this same company, Rosoboronexport.

A few months ago a bipartisan group of US Senators called for an end to these dealings. However press secretary George Little defends the purchases: “We’re not buying helicopters for the Syrian regime," he said, "We’re buying helicopters in support of the Afghan Air Force."

United to End Genocide says the US should not accuse Russia of aiding Syrian slaughters while continuing to do business with Rosoboronexport itself. Furthermore, who is actually responsible for the Syrian massacres is not completely clear, and it's most important that they don't lead to a more deadly military response.

Tell President Obama to stop any US support of violence in Syria and seek, instead, peaceful solutions.

We, the undersigned, ask you to end any deals with those who support attacks on Syrian civilians and support, instead peaceful solutions to Syria's violence.

United to End Genocide explains that there are other suppliers of helicopters the US can use, and it is therefore not necessary to deal with Rosoboronexport or any other questionable supporters of the Syrian massacres.

Also the US is reportably supplying weapons to the Syrian rebellion instead of seeking ways to help Syria settle its problems peacefully.

We ask President Obama and Congress to make sure the U.S. has ended its relationship with this Rosoboronexport and also to justify and disclose any other support of weapons to Syria before condemning Russia for doing the same.

When Senators learned of these dealings a few months ago, they told  Leon Panetta that "U.S. taxpayers should not be put in a position where they are indirectly subsidizing the mass murder of Syrian civilians."

Whether or not providing attack helicopters to al-Assad is synonymous with supporting the massacres, the American people need to know the truth about US weapons deals and whom and what they are supporting, directly or indirectly.

Thank you for your attention to this important concern.
