Stop killing wildlife in Grand Lakes!!!

I have lived in the Grand Lakes subdivision since it was developed in 1999. One of the reasons I love this neighborhood so much are the many lakes and the wildlife that the lakes attract (ducks, herons, egrets, coots, etc). Recently, while running my regular route around the lakes, I noticed that all the ducks and even baby ducklings were gone. Then I saw this post on my neighborhood NextDoor board that read:

"Today I received an awful answer to what happened to our lake ducks. It seems that there was a complaint and trappers came out and captured babies and all. One thing they don't tell you is that the ducks were not relocated, they were disposed of.   These were the same ducks that the fire department saved during the floods. I wonder how they would feel about their heroic efforts to save them now and how they would feel about the homeowners?  Unbelievable and sad. I t was such a wonderful and peaceful sight when momma duck and babies swam by. So now the lake is covered with scum and no wildlife."

If this is not bad enough, another neighbor told me that the trappers came in the disguise of night and captured all the ducks with boats and nets and exterminated them. Since this happened, I have even seen a few dead ducklings along the banks of some of the lakes. I presume these were hurt in the roundup and no longer have their parents to care for them, so they just died where they lay.

I am extremely disgusted by this and horrified to know that my HOA dues and going toward the capture and EXTERMINATION of the neighborhood wildlife.

I called Grand Lakes HOA several time to complain about this and to suggest some other options for cleaning the waste that this so-called 'invasive' species is leaving. I also left a comment in their online suggestion box. I would much rather they spend my HOA dollars on cleaning the lakes and surrounding bogs than killing ducks!  However, no one from Grand Lakes HOA has returned my calls.

Please sign my petition to tell Grand Lakes HOA to STOP KILLING WILDLIFE in our lakes!

This petition is to make the Grand Lakes HOA board know that the community does not approve of their decision to erradicate the ducks in the neighborhood with our HOA funds.  The decision to trap and kill the ducks was made by a few and does not reflect the views of the community.  The signatures and comments in this petition represent the majority position in the Grand Lakes community.

Update #57 years ago
In January the Grand Lakes HOA board elected a Wildlife Committee to control a Muscovy duck population. The committee, nominated by the board, did not consider majority of residents' wishes to co-exist with ducks, but instead recommended to remove them again. The committee calls the removal a ’relocation’, but the company hired to remove claims they will likely kill the ducks. The petition is re-opened to residents in hopes they will tell our board its not okay to use HOA funds to kill ducks.

The story of the Grand Lakes HOA murdering the ducks made the local news earlier this month:

and
http://www.click2houston.com/news/residents-angry-over-removal-of-ducks/34520632

This was good press, but we really need neighbors to show up to the next HOA meeting on Monday, Aug 24. Let them know you do not approve of them spending your HOA funds on eradicating ducks!
Update #28 years ago
One person has influenced the HOA to have the ducks exterminated. This was not communicated in our monthly newsletter as he indicated. The newsletters do instruct residents not to feed the ducks, as do the signs by the lakes. The newsletter also says "the HOA is looking into means of controlling the ducks". It does not say the HOA has made a decision to exterminate the ducks at night.
