Please, stand beside the Sarajevo strays. Even though there is a spaying and neutering program in progress, the city officers are killing entire dog families. It is not a pretty sight.
There are some sheltres that take in rescued strays, but they are few and far between, It would be a good solution to the problem to concert the municipal high kill shelters to rescue shelters for rehabilitation, spaying and neuterig. The rescued animals could the be given to adoption and thus minimize the funtioning of local puppy mills.
No animal deresved to be killed, even pups while suckling, in a dismissive manner.
It is not good advertisement to your city to kill so many strays, even entire families, mother dogs and pups, and leave them in plain sight, or collect them into dire shelters to die a slow and painful death.
It would be nice, if Sarajevo could spay and neuter all the strays, there is one such program going on right now. When spayed and neutered, there would be no more stray pups and the population of strays starts to decline in a natural manner.
The animal control officers may want to continue the present practice of killing strays, but it creates bad blood in most of the people of Sarajevo. There are those who are sick in mind and do terrible things to strays. There are those who want their meat. But where are those who want to give them homes? It could be arranged simply by changing the present municipal high kill shelters to rehabilitation/spay/neuter/shelters and that the employees in these shelters would take the dogs' wellbeing at heart.
