Black men are being unjustifiably murdered at the hands of racist, bias, and culturally insensitive officers. The lives of black men are not valued; therefore they are being murdered without hesistation, and there are no consequences for the officers involved. Our goal is to demand that officers be held accountable for their actions when deadly force is used. Officers need repercussions and accountability for excessive force. Officers need rigourous trainings to heighten cultural competence, including education on mental health. Officers should be required to go on automatic unpaid leave during the course of the investigation. Officers should be required to have bi-annual psychological evaluations. Once an officer involved shooting takes place all officers involved must take psychological evaluations to determine their current mental health. Community liaisons must be put in place as a bridge between law enforcement and the community. There must also be an examination of the patterns of the behaviors of officers to prevent future errant behavior. The goal is to create laws, rules, and policies that motivate officers to think twice about the way they handle, communicate, and interact with African American people. With stiffer consequences, more thought will go into the methods used when serving our communities.
