Global Citizens For Peace

The Petition Site's template, Question 4 asks, "Why should people sign this?" The word 'should' implies people don't have the right to choice, and must do another's bidding. This is what wars do on a more violent, aggressive, disgusting level. This petition is about people taking back their dignity without stooping to harmful, life denying methods. Many societies and individuals are addicted to violence and drama. Recovering from these strategies takes longer to heal and move forward when the wounds cut so deep. This petition is for people interested in finding new ways of resolving thousands year old situations that have been relying on strategies that simply aren't useful anymore.

This "Open Source Code" has been available to "We the People" since 1948. It was written by a lot of wise, big hearted people. It is up to "We the People" to read it, discuss it, think about it, digest it and work together to take advantage of it's precepts. It's tough work. May involve more than a Facebook share, a Twitter tweet, a gun, a bomb, fear and intimidation, threats and torture. Who knows maybe some brilliant genius can create an app and make a billion bucks. Me, I'm just looking for world peace. What are you looking for?

Let us begin in the preamble. (More versions of this petition will be available in other languages as it hopefully evolves.)

"Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world,

Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people,

Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law, ...

Article 1.

  • All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."

"The Universal Declaration of Human Rights," United Nations, 10 December 1948 via http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/
