Clean up the City of Toledo water NOW!

The City of Toledo does not realize it is still in the middle of a water crisis. Since the water crisis 8/2/2014, nothing of real substantive value has been done to fix the water supply for over 200,000 customers in the Toledo area. Just last summer, the EPA forced the City of Toledo Water Treatment Plant to notify its customers that their drinking water was laced with dangerous levels of trihalomethanes. Although better chemicals are available to rid our water supply of microsystins, the City of Toledo chose to use dangerously elevated amounts of chlorine instead and caused the trihalomethane problem. We must not allow our government officials to look the other way on this problem while they expose customers of the City of Toledo Water Treatment Plant to trihalomethanes which cause cancer and microsystin which is known to cause Hepatitis A and B. This petition is demanding that the EPA declare the Western basin of Lake Erie an impaired watershed and start taking real steps to clean up our water supply. The EPA can start by taking immediate steps to stop Corporate Farms from using manure on their fields which runs off into the watershed which feeds into Lake Erie. Additional steps to reduce the microsystin in our water could also be immediately started. Simple measures like lowering the water intake below the level of the algae and stopping civil engineers from dumping toxic sludge into Lake Erie near this intake could lower the level of microsystin. The City of Detroit and Windsor could fix their water treatment plants and stop dumping raw sewage into the watershed which feeds into Lake Erie. Pond Hippos and Eco Harvesters could be used to take the algae out of the water. Better chemicals could be used to treat the water supply. The Davis Besse Nuclear Plant could be stopped from causing thermal pollution in Lake Erie. The Koch brothers could be stopped from dumping tar sands into Lake Erie. It is a basic human right to have access to clean water which is safe for drinking and sanitation needs. Join me in demanding that the EPA act now to force government officials to finally do the right thing!
