On 10 May 2010, Alan Bates of the Sub Postoffice Alliance wrote to Ed Davey the Minister for the Post Office asking for his help in the Post Office scandal where Sub Postmasters were being prosecuted for the mistakes of the Computer Company.
Davey point blank refused to get involved saying the PO had operational freedom to run without interference from its shareholders. However, the shareholder was the Government itself and Davey should have gotten involved when asked to do so.
To compound matters, when Davey left Parliament he became a consultant to the Lawyers representing the PO in the prosecution of Sub Postmaster. There is a clear conflict of interest as he would have known things that would have helped the PO to prosecute.
Davey managed to get back into mainstream politics was knighted and eventually became the leader of the Lib Dems.
Davey profited from the demise of the SupPost masters, first receiving £275,000 from the Lawyers representing the PO and then being awarded a Knighthood.
Since 1 January 2024, Davey has continued to double down as if he has done no wrong
Davey should first give back his knighthood and then should be judged by the same committee that former PM Johnston was to be put before
