Name the new bridge over the Nambucca River at Macksville the Phillip Hughes bridge.

  • by: Gary Reid
  • recipient: New South Wales Roads Minister, Duncan Gay

Born in Macksville on November 30, 1988, Phillip Joel Hughes was a proud, polite and talented representative of his home town.

Having represented Australia in cricket at Under 19, Test and One Day International level, Phillip showed the great talent he worked hard to develop, as well as the pride of representing his nation.

Unfortunately, with Phillip's untimely death, the cricket world was unable to see the his career fully develop.

It would be appropriate as a tribute to this fine representative of Macksville, if the new bridges across the Nambucca River, as part of the Pacific Highway upgrade, were dedicated to the memory of Phillip Hughes.
