Save Malta's trees

The ritual, brutal pruning of trees and their removal from urban areas needs to stop

Many Maltese, including those living abroad and expats living on the island, are appalled at the way mature trees are being either removed from our urban areas, or turned into skeletal tree stumps.

The Maltese press has for the last few years been carrying stories of trees being ruthlessly pruned, or uprooted, yet the authorities do not seem to be taking any notice and seem to think that planting new trees in remote areas is the answer.

Furthermore, under the guise of 'embellishment' we are seeing money spent not on trees but concrete and naff potted plants.
