Lima city school board to over seniors rights to take part @ the graduation ceromy

Why would you single out students who do not pass the OGT seven days before gradation? This is pressure are teens are under to succeed. Please reconsider the local policy & realize what you are doing to seniors. They earned all credits let them enjoy this moment with their classmates receiving a “BLANK DIPLOMA”. Changes need to take place with this school system, far as making it mandatory to take OGT class during school hours. Do they have classes now just for OGT’s? The answer is no they do not.
17 years ago I graduated from high school, a 17 year old with a 15 month daughter. I made sure I was going to still succeed to walk the line instead of being a static. I never thought 17 years later my 18year old daughter would receive the news that she can not be apart of the graduation ceremony May 24,2015. My daughter fulfilled all senior requirements. She was a proud DECA team member, early grad and 2014-2015 homecoming queen. She also is the 2014-2015 prom queen, football & basketball varsity cheerleader during her senior year @ Lima Senior High Also has a total of 24 credits (only need 21). Everything has been ordered and paid for. Seven days before graduating I received a phone call stating she will not be able to participate in graduation. After I told her she did not pass her words broke my heart, “All the hard work I did was a waste of my time!” THE WALK IS RIGHT OF PASSAGE FOR YEARS OF HARD WORK AND THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO WALK, The only persons that is holding them back from walking is the Lima City School Board.
Students have gone through 13 years of school and all other requirements are met they are ready to take that final step to walk with their classmates. Ohio Board of Education gives the school districts decide locally whether or not students may participate in graduation ceremonies. LIMA CITY SCHOOL BOARD CAN CHANGE THIS POLICY, THIS TEST IS VERY CONTROVERSIAL AND OTHER SCHOOLS ALLOW ALL KIDS TO ENJOY GRADUATION DAY.
When she was in kindergarten I had to hold her back for another year which was not a problem and from that day on she has always said “I’m going to graduate with my original class.” “Yea ok!!!” was my response. Well she proved me wrong sophomore year of high when her counselor told me she can graduate early. At that moment my daughter was over joyed because she did it. Her senior year started out great & she was done with her classes everyday around 12pm. Instead of receiving an early release she stayed at school to receive tutoring and does the practice test online. We met with the “team” twice after she took the test this year. Sometimes there are good test takers and then there are some who struggle. One of the team member commenting stating she knows my daughter is not a good test taker after the fact I told them all at the first of the year. Instead of her test score increasing they are decreasing.
