Take Action to Prosecute Elephant Abuse in Ohio

A citizen near the Kelly Miller Circus Elephant rides in Ohio has signed a sworn affidavit that she and her 13 year old son witnessed the elephant handler attack the elephant, who had four young children on her back, with such force that the elephant screamed. The citizen also identified the perpetrator and her description of the weapon was something that looked like a bullhook. The Toledo Area Humane Society which is responsible for pursuing an action against the abuser is refusing to do anything about it, even though the sworn description of what occurred shows a violation of Ohio law.

TO THE TOLEDO AREA HUMANE SOCIETY:
We the undersigned from all over the world have signed this petition to urge you to press charges against the handler of an elephant at the Kelly Miller Circus Elephant ride who was witnessed beating the elephant on August 8. According to the sworn affidavit of one of the witnesses, the handler beat the elephant with a bullhook until the elephant screamed.
This was a clear violation of Ohio Revised Code sections 959 13(A)(1) and 959.20.
As the agency with the authority to ensure the prosecution for this violent act, it is your duty to press charges against the alleged perpetrator.
It is especially important that you do not ignore this clear and blatant violation of the law because you have been provided with the sworn affidavit of one of the witnesses, the police report that citizen filed, the citizen's authenticated photographs of the alleged perpetrator and therefore his identity.
If you do not prosecute, you will have forsaken not only your duty as the Toledo Area Humane Society, but will have encouraged lawless cruelty to animals throughout your jurisdiction and elsewhere.
