Keep our Highways Safe: End Text and Social Media While Driving

There are several states that ban texting while driving. However, the cell phone companies should be held accountable to stop texting and social media.  There should be automatic disabled texting and social media while car is in motion. The leading cause of death for teenagers between 16 and 19 are traffic accidents in the US. ca.gov  Each day, more than 15 people are killed and more than 1,200 people are injured in crashes that were reported to involve a distracted driver.1CDC Younger, inexperienced drivers under the age of 20 may be at highest risk because they have the highest proportion of distraction-related fatal crashes.1CDC Watch Dateline's "Crossing the Line" to see why I was inspired to make a change. I did not know anyone in this story. However, this could have been someone in my family or yours. Keep our highways safe and please join this cause.  In loving memory to the Thompson Family... Dear Cell Phone Providers, Disabling texting and social media when the car is in motion would save lives. Highway safety concerns are there because of the number of accidents that involve distracted drivers. The statistics are alarming. The number one cause of death in the United States for teenagers between the ages of sixteen and nineteen are traffic accidents. This is not meant to take away rights of cell phone usage for emergency such as calling. However, something must be done.
