To allow our children to play ball in the neighborhood

Please help us to repeal or amend the unusual ordinance in Middletown township which prohibits children or adults from playing ball in front of one's own home in the street or on the sidewalks. (Ordinance 436-401).

Unfortunately, due to one neighbor's complaint, we have been told to never play ball in the street in front of our home again.

For 16 years, we have loved living on Dilworth Lane in the Maple Point neighborhood. It is a wonderfully active community with children playing, adults and children walking, running, and biking, people reaching out and connecting with one another. We are sure that these are the types of communities that Middletown township is proud of. These kind of activities help make it a township that is alive and one where its residents are both healthier and happier.

We, as parents, do not want our children playing video games or watching TV for hours on end and thus, encourage them to play on many team sports and/or play outside. We have found that this has been extremely beneficial in developing them both physically and socially.

We would also like to request that the township revisit the specific wording and intent of another ordinance which prohibits portable basketball hoops from being on one's own property with respect to the right of way (Ordinance 436-602). This is another ordinance in Middletown which is quite unusual as many of the surrounding townships (Newtown, Lower Makefield, Upper Makefield, Northhampton, etc) have confirmed that they do not have such specific ordinances disallowing playing ball in the street or portable sports equipment with respect to the right of way.

Please know that we are simply asking for our children to be able to play ball every so often so that we can keep an eye on them.

Please show your support and sign the petition today.

If you are willing and able to attend the township meeting on Monday, Feb 2nd at 7:30 PM when we will be addressing the issue with the board of supervisors, your support would be appreciated more than you know.

Thank you,

WE WON!!!!

The right of way/ball ordinance change was finally voted upon tonight by Middletown township! We can now legally have a catch and bounce a ball in our neighborhood with the township backing us. It's been a long wait, but we couldn't be more pleased with the outcome.

You have all helped to be the change we wish to see in the world. :) Thank you for making a difference in ours.

We would like to express our gratitude for your support. We have always taught our children to fight for they believed in & couldn't be happier with the progress thus far.
Having had presented the petition to the Middletown township board, they were able to see the need for the change. As of last night, the ordinance amendment will be 'advertised' for 1 month before it will be voted on April 6th.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
