Tell the Pope to Stop the Spread of Zika!

Now that the Zika virus can cause micro-encephalopathy in newborns whose moms have the virus, it's a good time for the Pope to rethink the medieval prohibition against birth control. Health officials in Latin America are asking women not to get pregnant because the risk of giving birth to a child infected with Zika is so great. This creates a terrible conflict for devout Catholics who have been told, for centuries, that is against God's will to use birth control. Please join me in asking Pope Francis to lift the Catholic restriction against birth control.

Dear Pope Francis:

The Zika virus is a game changer. Women in countries hardest hit by this epidemic can no longer afford to get pregnant. In fact, their leaders are asking them not to get pregnant because of the terrible risk of bearing a child with micro-encephalopathy. Many of these women are devout Catholics. They may well be adhering to the outdated Catholic edict against birth control. This would be a very good time for you to rethink the stricture against birth control. Please lift the Catholic ban against contraception.
